WINTER SOLSTICE WORKSHOP Saturday 20th December 2025
Let’s welcome back the light on the shortest darkest day of the year,
With a time for a journaling reflection and meditation,
Together we will celebrate the darkest days, with light returning, to encourage the longer lighter days to come.
A fire pit ablaze with burning of words of the past year, and the entrance of new light bringing hope for the months ahead.
In medieval times people would give offerings of fresh fruit, nuts, vegetables and bread to their God in hope of a bountiful next six months. Families and neighbours would join together in merriment, to give thanks for the last six months, and to welcome the light returning.
Any musical instrument would be played, to sing and dance along, until the shortest day has transitioned into the new days dawn.
Traditionally the Yule log, was put on the fire to burn throughout the winter solstice, it was thought to ward off evil spirits. In more modern times bakers make a chocolate log to give thanks, perhaps not even knowing the significance.
Offerings and prayers to the solstice, to bring a fruitful spring and summer.
Winter solstice is a welcomed transition from the dark to the light.
The shortest day and the longest night.
